Zoysia Grass USA - Adaptation
At this time Zoysia grass leads the grass race category for the number of
"zones" adapted to a warm season grass in the United States. Whether due to more people experimenting
with the grass or due to climate changes over the last few years this grass has extensively grown in usage through these
extended areas. The adaptation to using seeds will of course broaden the scope of possibilities that have not existed for
many homeowners in the past.
Zoysiagrasses: Japonica - Matrella - Teniufolia
In
the beginning, zoysia grass was grown and sold as sod, sprigs, and plugs and is still available as such. The availability of Zoysia grass seed has made this grass available to the masses of intrepid souls who love to try something new. Maybe Zoysia will be the grass of the millennia who knows.
Zoysia Grass Is Highly AdaptableZoysia grass soils of adaptation range from sandy to clay and alkaline to acid. Climate preferences cover tropical to the north along the Atlantic coast as far as
Maryland. Zoysia does extremely well along the coastlines from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean and the areas between. Areas from rainy to rather dry and in between. Wow this grass does seem
amazing!
Grown from north of Maryland along the coast of the Atlantic through the Gulf coast of Texas and in mid to southern California on well draining soils. This covers nearly a third of the U.S.
The survival area of this grass is unknown. Stands are grown successful as far North as
parts of New York and into Chicago.

Establishment of Zoysia Grass
Zoysia grass lawns can be started
from seeds, sod, sprigs, or plugs. Zoysia forms a deep root system and does not tolerate poorly drained soils. Adapted to seashores, full sun in the north, and sun to medium shade in the southern areas.
Seed Use Notice
Please note that we ONLY
recommend Zoysia seeds for use in bare soil areas.
Planting seeds into existing grasses has a HIGH
FAILURE rate. If planting into an existing lawn (grass and/or weeds) we recommend that you consider using Zoysia Grass plugs
instead of seeds. - Zoysia seeds also are
difficult to achieve germination in low light / shady
areas. Use plugs in these areas for best results.
