Zoysia Grass USA Adaptation
At this time Zoysia grass leads the grass race category for the number of
"zones" adapted to a warm season grass in the United States. Whether due to more people experimenting
with the grass or due to climate changes over the last few years this grass has extensively grown in usage through these
extended areas. Two additional good reasons are the availability of quality seed and the fact that Zoysia grass is adapted to a large range of climates and soils.
Zoysia Grass Is Highly Adaptable
Zoysia grass will grow in a large variety of soils, from sandy to clay and alkaline to acid. Zoysia grass also grows in a large range of
climates. Climate preferences cover tropical to the north along the Atlantic coast as far as
Maryland. Zoysia does extremely well along the coastlines from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean and the areas between. Areas from rainy to rather dry and in between. Wow this grass does seem
Grown from north of Maryland along the coast of the Atlantic through the Gulf coast of Texas and in mid to southern California on well draining soils. This
adaptation range covers nearly a third of the U.S.
The most northern survival area of zoysia grass is unknown. Stands are grown successful as far North as
parts of New York and into Chicago.

Zoysia grass lawns can be started
from seeds, sod, sprigs, or plugs. Zoysia grass forms a deep root system that is harmless to septic tanks and such but it does not tolerate poorly drained soils. It is adapted to seashores,
needs full sun in the north, and sun to medium shade in the southern areas of the USA.
