Compadre Zoysia creates a dense growing Zoysia turf that inhibits weeds.
This medium-fine textured turf grass is much darker green in color than many other zoysia grass varieties currently available to the turf grass professional. Compadre is an excellent turf choice, especially
in areas where Grey Leaf Spot disease is destroying existing perennial ryegrass turf. |

Seed Researchers Recommend Compadre Zoysia
Read aboutcomparison of Compadre
with Other Zoysia varieties.
Compadre ZOYSIA:
This zoysia grass variety has been chosen by Seed Research breeders due to its high turf quality, very dark green
color and consistent seed yield. Compadre Zoysia has performed well in turf grass trial plantings in various locations, in comparison to both seeded and vegetative varieties. Compadre Zoysia seed is recommended as a good replacement for many of the existing vegetative and seeded zoysia varieties that are slow to germinate
and establish from seed or plugs - the seeds have been primed for faster germination & establishment.
Mixing Compadre Zoysia with a turf-type tall fescue can produce an excellent year round turf, in the transition zone and temperate climates.
(see note below). Like other zoysia varieties, Compadre Zoysia does go dormant in winter, but this variety generally goes dormant later than other varieties, and will usually be the first to green up the following spring. While dormant, it maintains a pleasant, uniform golden brown color until warm weather returns. With proper care and preparation, dormant Compadre can be overseeded for winter green color.
Seeded zoysia performs
well in a mixture with turf-type tall fescues, as long
as the turf manager maintains a primary fertilizer
schedule in the fall and early spring - do not fertilize
in mid-summer for best results. Tall fescue seeds should ONLY be added after the zoysia has become established.
IMPORTANT ESTABLISHMENT NOTE (Fescue + Zoysia): You
must first establish the zoysia starting at the appropriate time in the spring
or early summer. Once the zoysia has germinated and the plants have grown
some you can plant tall fescue in the FALL (or second fall after planting is
more ideal) after the zoysia has been established. Best to use a slit
seeder machine to plant the tall fescue. DO NOT PLANT the fescue and zoysia at
the same time. - Zoysia must become established first before incorporating the
tall fescue. - Planting both grasses at the same time may result in failure of
the zoysia seed plants to establish. If you already have tall fescue established
you must use zoysia plugs instead of seeds.

COMPADRE ZOYSIA SEED PLANTING RATE:
Compadre - Pure Seeds: Plant 1 to 2 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft.
- Plant in Late Spring / Summer - Follow seed rate recommendations (1-2 lbs.
seed per 1000 sq ft.). More on when to plant Zoysia seed.
- Plant on a weed free, grass free, prepared soil area. Do not plant with ryegrass or in FALL. Keeping the area shade free is important, so mow regular as weeds appear during establishment.
- Well prepared seedbed required. - If you can't irrigate, don't plant
- WATER DAILY (or even twice a day - morning & afternoon) FOR first 15-25 days until seedlings have sprouted. - Then every other day. Skip watering when it rains. After first 8-10 weeks you can water as needed.
- Follow proper maintenance for your new lawn (Water, Mow, Fertilize, etc.)

Companion Zoysia. The name was changed due to a trademark agreement. It is the exact same grass variety - just with a new name.
| SEED USE
NOTICE: Please note that we ONLY
recommend Zoysia seeds for use in bare soil areas.
Planting seeds into existing grasses has a HIGH
FAILURE rate. If planting into an existing lawn (grass
and/or weeds) we recommend that you consider using Zoysia
plugs instead of
seeds. - Zoysia seeds also are difficult to achieve
germination in low light / shady areas. Use plugs in
these areas for best results. |

"Compadre Zoysia is everything you need in a turfgrass," said Mike Hills, Research
Agronomist for Seed Research. "It's a top performer in stressful conditions, a natural weed suppressor and a survivor in extreme summer and winter climates."
|
Due to its late fall dormancy and early spring green-up, Compadre can be overseeded for winter green color. It is best to wait until the second year of growth to overseed so as allow the Zoysia to become fully matured and established. Compadre is an ideal choice for renovations or new construction as well and can be maintained at variable mowing heights for different purposes. It is extremely tolerant of high salt concentrations in water or soil.
