Zoysia seed have a very limited
shelf life... All seeds are constantly aging and dying...
some varieties start dying within a year of harvest and
some live several years (depending on various factors). By
federal and state regulations, all of our seeds are germ tested
every 6-7 months and labeled with the current germination.
This is because planting seeds
with a current test is the only way to know if the seeds are
still viable.
STORAGE OF SEEDS
It is very possible if you store
and plant seeds the following year after your purchase, you
could have seed that have declined in germination percentage
from what they were on the original date of purchase the
previous year. The ONLY way to determine if the germ % of
zoysia seeds is still good, at the time you plant is to retest
the seeds. To maintain quality, all our zoysia seeds are tested
every 6-7 months to determine germination by
independent commercial testing laboratories.
We do NOT recommend buying
zoysia seeds (or any other seeds) unless you intend to plant
within a short time of the purchase (couple months). By law,
because germination percentages can change, we do NOT guarantee
the germination percentage of seeds with test dates older than 7
months. Just as food will spoil and is dated, so will the
germination of seeds decline.
