Zoysia - Usage
Lawns and Turfgrasses
| Quite a lot of
Zoysia grasses are planted for home sites in the transition
areas where individuals are tired of the disease, drought
problems of Fescues and Bluegrasses. While Zoysia presents a
golden lawn color in the winter months, it makes for a trouble
free lawn during the spring and summer growing season.

Usage:
Zoysias dense, thick , carpet -like coverage makes this grass an ideal lawn, sports
field cover (except football and soccer), and golf course fairway
grass such as the Zenith Zoysia in the above picture. Baseball fields, bowling
greens or any medium to light impact sport is adapted for the use of
Zoysias. Even some football fields use Zoysia, but its slow
recovery time makes it not a high use grass in this sport.
One plus for sports is the shock absorbing thatch layer it
produces.

Zoysia shows promise in lower transition area"
Article found at Golf Course News. - Tee and other areas
established first year from seeded Zoysia seed.
Newer varieties that are being
developed to repair faster may eventually make zoysia a good choice for the rougher sports
such as football and polo. Zoysia can be used anywhere a thick, dense, carpet-like
coverage is desired for enjoyment from early spring to late fall in the north and year
round in the warmer climates..
A mix of Zoysia and Fescue is being
planted in areas west of the Mississippi in the transition
zone. In areas East of the Mississippi and in warmer areas,
mixtures planted (ryegrass / fescues) with Zoysias are not
recommended for the long run in most situations. While they
look make a green winter look, they eventually cause shade
problems with the Zoysia that can cause your grass to thin
out. If you must overseed make sure you take the
proper maintenance steps to mow out your overseeded cool season
grass in the spring so as to minimize damage to the Zoysia.
